Are we entering a visual social media era?
The visual social web is still rapidly evolving and we’re in the dawn of a time when visual storytelling is vital for social media success… Or are we?
Today’s top brands are said to be acting more like publishers, effectively using visuals to tell a story and draw a reader into a fuller version of content. One of the newest social media platforms, Pinterest, went from just being a fun way to share pictures to a serious traffic source for online stores.
However, what’s relevant for your audience is what really matters. If a pretty picture is what inspires your customer to take action then you’re on to a winner. If content marketing is more preferential then there’s no argument … Or should you be using both to optimise your performance?
When it comes down to it, visuals are just one piece of the content jigsaw and so by exploring the bigger picture, you really are going to get the maximum engagement with your customers and potential customers.
So why introduce visual content into your social media marketing strategy?
Ironically, I recently came across an infographic about this subject in a marketing blog that had many compelling statistics:
- 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual
- People consider a website’s design as the number 1 criterion for discerning the credibility of a company
- On social media, photos are liked 2 times more than text updates
- The most recent trend to come to social media is the dominance of visual content.
There are a vast amount of new social media platforms continuously being introduced into today’s marketing practices and it is up to you to decide which are most appropriate to your industry and customers. This requires in-depth research and analysis of your target market in order to discover their needs so your company can offer a direct solution.
