Internet Marketing in Europe – Hosting and Domain Names
UK and European Hosting
Clements Marketing recommend that you host your website in the country of your target market. This means that if you are targeting France and Denmark, you should host your French website in France and Danish website in Denmark. This will help with your rankings on the local search engines, in particular the local Google, as they will give locally hosted websites priority.
UK and European Domains
Top level domain extensions like .com, .org will normally rank higher on global search engines, but to make your blog or website targeted to specific country, buying a country specific domain is always a good idea. If you took a look, you would notice that most Aussie bloggers are using the .au domain extension, and they rank pretty high in Australian Google search. Similarly for India, you can target .in or .co.in. For U.K. traffic, you would want to use .co.uk domain extension. There are however different rules and regulations for registering domain names in certain countries in Europe. Some countries like France have stricter regulations and require a local presence to be able to register a domain name for your French website. However, other countries like Spain and Belgium do not.
